Meet Dr. Yerli
Hi, I'm Behiye Almila Yerli, MD, founder of Yerli Primary Care. I am also currently the only physician in the practice, which means that when you come here, your care is directly with me.
To understand my background, it helps to know that I grew up in a small town in Turkey and later moved to a large city. That contrast shaped the way I see people, community, and health. I learned early that every person has a different story, different struggles, and different priorities. I believe those details matter deeply in medicine.
I went to medical school because I wanted to help people in the most meaningful way I could. After graduating from medical school in Turkey, life brought me to the United States. I first moved to California's Bay Area, and later came to New York City for my Internal Medicine residency at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull Medical Center, an affiliate of NYU Grossman School of Medicine.
During residency, I had the privilege of learning from excellent physicians and caring for one of the most diverse and underserved patient populations in New York City. That experience strengthened my commitment to primary care. I saw how much good primary care can change a person's life not only by treating illness, but also by preventing disease, explaining complex medical problems, and helping patients feel more in control of their health.
What I love most about primary care is its variety and continuity. One day we may talk about headaches, another day about cancer screening, cholesterol, weight management, blood pressure, diabetes management, menopause symptoms, or long-term cardiovascular risk. I enjoy putting all the pieces together and helping patients understand the bigger picture of their health.
To me, being trusted by a patient is a deeply humbling experience. People often come to the doctor when they are worried, uncomfortable, or vulnerable. I never take that trust lightly. I do my best to listen carefully, explain clearly, and address concerns with respect and honesty.
One of the most meaningful compliments I have received from patients is that they feel like they are coming to see someone who truly knows them, not just visiting a clinic. That is the kind of care I hope to provide at Yerli Primary Care: professional, evidence-based, and personal.
I also believe that quality healthcare should be affordable and accessible. As Yerli Primary Care continues to enroll with the most common insurance plans, I am committed to keeping visit costs reasonable.
My goal is to create a practice where patients feel comfortable asking questions, discussing concerns openly, and taking an active role in their healthcare. Whether you are managing a chronic condition, focusing on prevention, or simply looking for a physician who will help you navigate and recover from a temporary health problem, I look forward to partnering with you on your health journey.
